Selects vs. Predators
Thursday, June 9, 2011
Despite a 17-strikeout performance from Doug Hoffman, the Selects could not muster the needed offense to knock off the Predators, the KFL's only undefeated team.
The Predators took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when back-to-back singles by Matt Duggan and Dan Mullin and a walk to Matt Anderson loaded the bases with nobody out. Ryan Horsley then hit into a double play, cashing Duggan, before Hoffman recorded one of his many strikeouts to end the threat.
The Selects tied the game in the top of the sixth when a Mike Brown fielder's choice cashed Jamie Ridley, who led the Selects' offense with a 2 for 3 night. The score would remain knotted at 1 until the bottom of the eighth, when Predators' catcher Justin Durres lined a shot to the left field fence, cashing Nick Gehl with the winning run.
Hoffman allowed just four hits and a walk over eight innings in the loss, while Predators hurler Dan Mullin held the Selects to three hits and a walk while striking out seven in the pitcher's duel. The Selects, now 4-3, look to avoid falling to 0.500 on Tuesday when they face the 6-1 Cardinals.
